Barbara G. Hofhaug

Barbara G. (MacDonald) Hofhaug, died early Sunday morning, March 23, in her Gloucester home. She was 92. She was born in Everett, MA, on May 11, 1921. Her husband, Rolf, was also born in Everett, where they met. They married in 1951 and shared thirty-two years, raising three children, Robert, Richard, and Diane, before Rolf died of heart failure in 1983 at the age of 66.
Barbara loved to work. She was an office worker, performing clerical work at many companies in different industries over the years, with the most recognizable being Firestone, Town & Country Jewelers in Chelsea, and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She finally retired when she was 80 years old.
Barbara often said she was born at the best time ever, when things were simpler and people really knew how to have fun. She fully enjoyed her life and knew how to fill it with the things she enjoyed. She loved to dance, travel, crochet and play Bingo. She was an open, happy and friendly woman. She was a generous friend who always had many friends around her. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was much-loved and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her brother, Martin, by her son, Robert and his children, daughter Melody and her husband Timothy Schneider and their children Timothy, Benjamin, and Danielle, son Brendan, daughter Katie and son Adam; by her son, Richard and his daughter, Kylie; and by her daughter, Diane.
Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Rolf, by her sister, Irma and her husband, Chandler Tuells; her sister, Mary MacDonald; her brother, Laughlin MacDonald, Jr and his wife, Rose and her sister-in-law, Joanne MacDonald.
Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St, Gloucester, on Thursday, March 27, from 9am to 11am. A short funeral officiated by Steve Mullen will follow. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. The burial will be held in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's name may be made to Spectrum Adult Day Health Program, 600 Cummings Center, Suite 176X, Beverly, MA 01915.
