Alice A. Munroe, 97
Alice Amanda Paulina (Peterson) Munroe, lifelong partner of the late Arthur James Munroe, joined her husband in everlasting life on Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010.
Born to the late Anna and Oke Peterson on June 19, 1912, she was the 3rd of eight children. Lovingly known to her family as "Nonnie Roe" she was born in her parents home in Rockport and attended Rockport Schools.
Alice married her love Arthur on September 20, 1931 and had three children. Over the years, they owned many homes and co-owned the Manning House from 1956 – 1966, known as the Captains Bounty and the Rockport Laundry Mat on Main Street in the 1970s.
Alice enjoyed crocheting blankets for everyone. It was her way of sharing her love. She would wrap you in a hug and keep you warm. She enjoyed the simplest of pleasures and always said "God love ya!" touching your face with her soft gentle hands. She had a way of making your heart swell with joy and made everyone she talked to feel so special and loved.
Alice is survived by her sisters, E. Josephine Lake, Emily D. Poole, both of Rockport, Eleanor I. Ashe of Milford, Maine; her children, Mary-Ann Poole, wife of the late Paige O. Poole, Sandra Lee Lorentzen, wife of the late Bruce K. Lorentzen, both of Rockport; daughter-in-law Marilyn Munroe of Gloucester; her grandchildren Patty-Ann wife of Peter Ferazzi of Rockport, Florence E. wife of Shaun Sweet of Amesbury, Paige O. Poole and wife Adele of Las Vegas, Lois Lee Munroe of New Hampshire, Arthur Munroe III and wife Elaine of Gloucester, Virginia wife of Fred Gibney of Gloucester, Hollie Beth wife of Thomas Kudo of Ohio, Lorrina Brown wife of James Anderson of Rockport, Doreen Brien of Gloucester, Bruce Lorentzen Jr. and his companion Melissa Romano of Rockport, Erik Lorentzen of Rockport; great grandchildren Denice Ferazzi of Beverly, Paul Ferazzi of Beverly, Robert Sweet of Boston, Aaron Poole of Gloucester, Kiera Poole of S. Carolina, Peyton Poole of S. Carolina, Sam Munroe of Gloucester, Michael Munroe, Alicia Gibney, Melissa-Ann Brown, all of Gloucester, Joshua Anderson, Michael Anderson, Angela Anderson, all of Rockport, Tiffany Lorentzen of Lawrence, Michayla Tarr, Samantha Tarr, Michael Brien, Cody Lorentzen, Jenna Lorentzen, Kaisha Lorentzen, all of Gloucester, Marissa Lorentzen, Erik Lorentzen Jr of Rockport, Brittni Thayer of Conn.; great-great grandchildren Gregory Millier of Gloucester and Rachael Lorentzen of Lawrence; sister-in-law, Norma Sweeney Peterson of Florida.
Alice is predeceased by her brother, Arthur Peterson; sisters, Anna Chick, Henrietta Irvine and Ina Peterson and her son, Arthur J. Munroe Jr.
Her funeral service will be held in the Burgess & Mackey Funeral Home, 201 Main Street, Rockport on Friday, March 5th, at 11 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The burial will be held in Beech Grove Cemetery.
